10:30am Thursday 1st April 2010 in Eating Out Reviews By Jaine Blackman
OUR news editor recommended Noodle King in Swindon as being a good place for a takeaway.
He reckons he knows his noodles. He also claims the best ones are to be found in Belfast, so I wasn’t totally sure whether to trust his judgement but we decided to give it a go anyway.
You can eat in as well as take out and as we were hungry, we decided to try a starter each on the premises before taking the rest home.
Son Tom went for the prawn toast (£3.80), while I had salt and chilli squid (£5).
Both were excellent. The prawn toast with a thick layer of seafood and crunchy topping was declared to be “the best ever”. The squid was tender and came in a light batter with slivers of fiery chilli.
The decor at Noodle King is fairly basic but it seemed a perfect little place to have an informal midweek supper, and two other tables had groups of friends dining together on them.
I was a bit disappointed that my first choice of main course, a Vietnamese style dish of beef, chicken and prawn vermicelli with chilli sauce (£5.50), wasn’t available. Instead I went for chicken, beef and prawn fried noodles Thai style (£5.50) (the restaurant also does Malaysian dishes as well as all the usual Chinese restaurant favourites) which proved to be a worthy substitute.
Tom’s chicken chop suey (£5) was another success.
So apologies to our news editor for doubting his choice. I should have trusted him . . . he’s a journalist!
