POPULAR Trowbridge Indian Tale of Spice has long been a favourite among locals since it opened in its town centre location, with demand so high they opened a second restaurant in Westbury in 2009.

The restaurant, which also provides a takeaway service for those times when you just cannot be bothered to leave the comfort of your own home, incorporates a huge range of dishes, including both vegetarian and meat choices.

It is partly because of this extensive choice that Tale of Spice has won a host of awards, with the restaurant winning The Best of Wiltshire Award in this very paper on multiple occasions.

The restaurant, which is currently four-star rated from 101 reviews on TripAdvisor, is also well-renowned for its friendly customer service, something which is evident when I decide to visit with my partner one evening.

As we sat down for our meal, we were instantly drawn to the starters and appetisers part of the menu and decided on some poppadoms and sides, including mint sauce and mango chutney.

The service was swift and the poppadoms went down a treat. While they are not the hardest things to get right, the poppadoms were beautifully light and crispy and were the perfect accompaniment to the sauces.

It was then time to decide on the main course, with house specials such as Shahi Mughal Chicken (£6.95) and Chicken Passanda (£6.95) looking particularly appealing.

However, after studying the impressively extensive menu for several minutes, we eventually go for two of our mild and, admittedly safe, favourites Chicken Tikka Massala (£6.95) and Lamb Korma (£5.95), along with two portions of Pilau rice (£2.45 each).

Again, the service was prompt and both dishes looked great on arrival, with the smell wafting invitingly and encouraging us to tuck in, which we did without much hesitation.

The rice was perfectly cooked, as was the meat, with my korma sauce particularly creamy. The lamb virtually fell apart with the prod of my fork and was a wonderful taste sensation when combined with the korma sauce.

The same was true of the Chicken Tikka Massala, with the sauce not too spicy even for someone as useless with spice as me, and Emma was just as pleased with the taste of the dish.

We were both left full and very satisfied, with the bill coming in at just under £25, which is very reasonable for the quantity and quality of the food. It’s certainly not hard to see why it has so many awards decorating its walls.
