I’m not really a big fan of burgers, so the family had to do a bit of sweet-talking to get me through the doors here.

It’s built to look as if you are inside a railway tunnel, and the arched ceiling does make the sound quality a bit muffled. We got a table easily, and dithered for a respectable amount of time over the menu. You place your order at the bar and pay upfront, which I thought a good idea as it means you aren’t kept hanging around trying to settle the bill if you’re in a hurry.

It is, as the name suggests, all burgers, with varieties covering all the usual meats, plus veggie options and more unusual patties. I was tempted by buffalo, but in the end settled for a Camenburger (£9.75): beef with Camembert, hash brown, truffle mayo, onion jam relish on a brioche bun.

Number one child had already bagged the beef with avocado and bacon (£9.15), while the daughter with a taste for spice wanted a Taxidriver (£9.80): beef with American cheese, onion ring, Cajun relish, smoked chilli mayo, dill pickle, salad, also on a brioche bun.

I ordered the burgers, two bowls of skinny fries and three glasses of their speciality fizz, one in each flavour, as it came recommended by the child who’d been here for people’s birthday outings as being more refreshing than Coke.

We had a not unreasonable wait for the food but it was annoying that the drinks didn’t arrive before it, and in fact I had to remind the waitress we had ordered them. We weren’t the only table having trouble with getting liquid refreshment. In fact, Mr Angry on the table next to us went up to complain.

The burgers were generous enough to need cutting in half before you could wrap your jaws round them but not so large that they went cold before you had finished. The beef was tasty and my truffle mayo was particularly good. I wasn’t sure if the brioche bun added or detracted and I would have been just as happy with an ordinary one.

The skinny fries were lush, crispy, piping hot and with just enough salt. I wish I’d tried the sweet potato ones as well, having spotted them going to our other neighbours.

Desserts being minimal and cold, we decided we were full and satisfied.

The bill came to £41.65, good value, and the service was certainly quick enough for you to come here before going to the theatre or a film.
