While I had experienced the stylish Bath restaurant and bar Graze before – I have popped in for a drink with friends on numerous occasions – I had never had an opportunity to try the food.

So after an afternoon of shopping with my girlfriend, it seemed to be a perfect time to see if all the good things I had heard about it were true.

The location is within a few minutes’ walk of the train station and when we entered early in the evening it was reasonably quiet, so we were quickly seen to a table by a very polite waitress.

I was very impressed by the surroundings. The central bar is in the middle of the spacious restaurant, with the dining tables situated around it allowing for easy movement.

The wooden decor is very classy and it is easy to see why it is often a regular haunt for professionals.

It didn’t take long after we were seated for the waitress to return to take a drink order and pour us some cold water – always a nice touch – with both me and Emma going for a Coke.

The drinks were followed up by some warm complimentary bread and butter before we decided on our main courses.

Graze is renowned for its strong focus on cooking British meat and especially its dry aged steak, so unsurprisingly I went for a rib eye steak (£23.95) while Emma went for the sirloin (£19.95).

Both meals came with chips and I also ordered onion rings (£3) on the side and the cognac and peppercorn sauce. Emma also went for a tomato salad (£3) on the side.

Our orders did not take long to arrive and we both enjoyed the steak, which was cooked to perfection – medium rare.

The chips were also nicely cooked and the big onion rings made sure there would be no dessert for me. The peppercorn sauce was okay, although it was a little runny for my liking.

In total, the meal came to £47.45, which included £8.95 off as part of a deal if you order sirloin steak, sauce and a drink. All in all, we were both left full up and very satisfied with what was an excellent meal.
