After a day shopping in Bath with friends, we decided to stop for a late lunch at the Neapolitan restaurant Yammo! in Walcot Street.

Despite missing the lunch-time rush, the tables outside and on the ground floor were full. It was a lovely warm day and we were slightly disappointed at being led upstairs. But we needn’t have worried as we had the small room to ourselves with a lovely breeze coming through the sash windows and dulcet tones of Italian music on the stereo.

Our round of drinks soon arrived – two homemade Sicilian lemonades and an Orchard Pig cider. Both Sarah and I were quite disappointed with the lemonade as it didn’t have the sharp burst of lemon we were expecting. It was too overpowered by the added mint leaf, which was a shame.

Yammo! is classed as a family-run street food kitchen, pizzeria and cocktail bar. Having walked past the open kitchen where the chefs were preparing fresh pizzas, my mind was pretty made up and I went for the Marinara pizza, with fennel salami and red peppers as extras (extras cost £1).

Sarah opted for the vegetarian pizza, and swapped the ricotta for olives, and Andrew chose the vegetarian lasagne with salad. We also ordered a side of chips to share.

My pizza came with no cheese, which I think was the secret behind me being able to finish the whole thing as it was massive. Despite being told the red peppers would actually be a mixture of coloured peppers, there seemed to be a majority of green peppers, but that was not a problem for me.

Sarah thought it was odd not having tomato sauce on her pizza, which she said she didn’t see on the menu, but loved the fresh dough and the fact it was not greasy.

Andrew liked the presentation of the lasagne and thought there was a variety of vegetables and textures. He said the accompanying salad with dressing went well, but would have liked a little more lasagne.

Our chips came with traditional tomato sauce, which was refreshing.

The relaxed atmosphere led to a lot of talking and catching up and we did take a while to polish everything off, so there was no room for dessert.

The bill came to £49.20. The service, setting and quality of food makes a return visit inevitable.

Opening times: Monday-Thursday noon-3pm, 6pm-10.30pm; Friday eves until 11.30pm; Saturday 11am-11.30pm; Sun evenings until 9pm.
