Having been to The Crown for a couple of drinks on a few occasions, my partner and I decided to try its food.

On a sunny Wednesday evening the pub was not too busy so we had our choice of seats and opted for a cosy looking table near the bar.

The seating area has a very homely feel, a vast improvement on its look before it was refurbished earlier in the year, and I was particularly taken by a quirky painting of the Market Place hanging on the wall.

There was a bit of a wait for our orders to be taken and in between courses, but not so long that it bothered us.

There were quite a few starters which took my fancy, but in the end I chose the tempura prawns while my partner Craig went for the nachos with salsa and cheese.

I thought my starter was delicious, the coating was crispy and a bit spicy which gave the prawns a bit of a kick.

Craig was also impressed with his nachos and it didn’t take him long to polish them off.

For the main course I chose the six ounce beef burger which came with chips, substituting the barbecue sauce for cheddar and garlic mushrooms.

The burger came with two large onion rings which I found a bit greasy. Overall it was nice, but not the best I have ever had. Craig had the beef tomato, mozzarella and pesto flat bread, which he really liked.

Despite being quite full we decided to have a dessert.

The pecan pie was quite satisfying and I really liked the ice-cream.

Craig found the brownie was a bit too rich for his taste and was bit disappointed that the ice-cream was a little melted when it arrived.

Overall, it was a good meal, the staff were very friendly and attentive, although the service was a little lax at times.
