After an afternoon of shopping I was in the mood for some hearty pub grub so popped into the White Bear.
The old Tudor building is quite dark and on a Monday afternoon it was extremely quiet, which was slightly intimidating, but the lady behind the bar was very friendly.
I was interested to read a framed article on the wall which says the pub is haunted by the ghosts of a horse, which fell into the cellar while delivering stock and broke its neck and was put down and buried there, and a lady murdered by her husband in 1655 because she was having an affair.
The menu offers no-frills pub food and I opted for the beef lasagne with salad and garlic bread while Craig went for homemade chicken curry with rice.
The lasagne was a good-sized portion but some of the pasta was a bit burnt and I found it to be a bit too creamy and not very meaty.
The garlic bread was a burger bun, which I thought was odd and not all that enjoyable, but I did like the salad which was very fresh.
Craig enjoyed his meal but felt that for the £7.50 price tag he probably could have had better elsewhere.
With two pints of coke the bill came to £18.50.
