THERE are some people who can handle hot curries – personally, I am not one of them.

But when my boyfriend’s housemate saw the naga massala on the Fahed’s Flavours of India website, labelled “very hot”, he couldn’t resist.

I stuck to my usual and went for the chicken sag (£5.30), which is made with chicken and spinach, while my boyfriend chose the khazana (7.95) a “medium hot” dish which included a breast of chicken marinated in a rich sauce with onions, green pepper and fresh garlic.

Delivery for orders over £12 was free, so we made the most of the offer and waited for our delivery in the living room.

It was only about 30 minutes before there was a knock at the door (we had been told it would be 40), and the dishes were steaming as we got them out of the packaging.

My choice was a generous portion with plenty of chicken, and the boys looked pleased with their dishes too.

Adam, the spice lover, said his curry tasted great, but after a few minutes he was quick to ask if anyone else wanted a drink.

Accompanied by a glass of water, he tackled the rest of his dish, but had to give up in the end as the heat was really building up (so hot, in fact, that he even dribbled as he tried to talk to us after putting down his knife and fork!) Scott was raving about how good his curry was, but said he usually likes his curries a bit spicier.

He was pleased with how big the portion was, and said they had been generous with the meat.

We ate off our laps, the best way to enjoy a takeaway, but as my plate was at an angle all the oil slid to one side, forming a pool of grease on the edge of my dinner.

I am not sure whether the culprit was the chicken sag or the tarka dhal (£2.70), or both, but there was so much that I poured some into the sink as it was putting me off .

With hindsight, I should have joined the boys with their pilau rice (£2.20) and garlic naan (£2.50) as this would have soaked up some of the liquid, but I usually find the combination of chicken sag and tarka dhal works okay, as they are normally much drier.

If I eat there again, I will probably choose a different dish, but Fahed’s, in Moredon Road, Rodbourne Cheney, is certainly worth a try.

Our order, which included three poppadoms, came to £33.25.
