CHIPPENHAM Lights Switch On will be a dazzling event on November 21 with entertainers, Santa and fireworks.

The light switch on event starting at 6.30pm in the Market Place will be one to remember with the John Jennings fun fair in town, a fairground organ as well as street entertainers.

Chippenham Tourist Information officer Cheryl Gibbs said: “We are still finalising details but the Christmas lights switch on is going to be a great event.

“There is a fun fair, craft market in the town hall, street entertainers including jugglers and fireworks at River Island.”

Staff at the tourist information office have also been keen to encourage shops on the High Street and in the shopping centres to join in the celebrations that evening with late night shopping.

Mrs Gibbs added: “We have been encouraging people to open their shops for the evening for all of the late night shoppers in preparation for Christmas.

“It is the ideal opportunity to get the perfect gifts with the craft fair, stalls lining the High Street.”

She also said that there will be refreshments and mince pies to keep families warm and refreshed.

Santa Claus will also be coming to town bringing with him a surprise and an ITV roadshow will also be in town promoting the event.

The Chippenham Light Switch will happen at 6.30pm with ITV West presenter Peter Rowell with the ITV Roadshow and Mayor Coun Marian Stickland.

Events manager Emma King organising the event expects it to be a fantastic evening for all of the family.

She said: “There will be a fantastic firework display on river island at 8.30pm.

“There will be late night opening at the museum and heritage centre and the tourist information office.

“The event has been organised by Chippenham Town Council and me and my team have worked so hard to make it a great event for adults and children.”
