Go for a rugged look
WHEN a room is looking a little tired and dated, the addition of a new rug is one of the most cost-effective ways to create a whole new mood.
If you are looking for something in a busy area, such as the hall, avoid plain and light rugs. Patterns and dark rugs won't show up too many marks.
Do you want your rug to be the focal point of a room or just an accessory?
It is the main feature; go for something striking and eye-catching. If it is just another accessory, then choose something that blends in with your existing colour scheme.
If you room is small, choose a plain light rug, big rooms can carry large patterns and darker colours and will make the room feel cosy
And don't forget to keep your rug in top condition, rotate it once every few months to ensure colour and wear is kept even - particularly in areas with plenty of natural light.
Get ready for Spring with bright acids or fresh pastels.
Interior design styles can often reflect the catwalk and so key themes for this season will be floral, earthy and ethnic.
The colour green could also be a big hit in the home.
If you are feeling the blues, a change of scenery is often the best cure - a new accessory for the home can instantly update the look of your interior. And what better time for a change than the annual spring clean?
Says Andrew Frith of GH Frith in Blagrove, Swindon: "It's surprising what a change of colour can do.
Small changes can brighten up the home and alter your mood. Spring colours are bright and fresh, so a colourful rug is a great way of having these in your home.''
