Bride Lucy Bernard was bowled over by her new husband Roddy Chisholm Batten on Saturday after their wedding at Great Bedwyn.

On their way from the wedding at St Mary’s, the bride and her husband, who used to play cricket for Marlborough College, his brother Mark and close friend Bart Nelson and the ushers stopped off for an impromptu game on the college playing fields.

The reception was held in Marlborough at the home of the bride’s parents Ralph and Lisa Bernard. Mr Bernard is chairman of the Royal Albert Hall and chairman of classic FM. Mrs Bernard is a writer.

The 200 guests at the wedding included the Mayor and Mayoress of Marlborough, Nick and Edwina Fogg.

The bridegroom is the son of Walter and Shirley Chisholm Batten of Great Bedwyn.

The bride was attended by her younger sisters Alice and Jessica and flower girls Phoebe Peppiatt and Sasha Hosier together with page boy Harry Peppiatt.

Her sister Eleanor and the bridegroom’s sister Rachel Peppiat, performed the readings and Alice and Jessica entertained the guests singing Ave Maria and Pie Jesu as the register was signed.

The couple are honeymooning in Borneo.
