FORMER farm worker Louis Chivers has died aged 99.
Mr Chivers had worked into his 80s and his family said he hardly had an illness in his life nor been to hospital.
He was born at Stockley in Calne, the eldest of nine children.
He moved around a lot with his parents as his father, Herbert, was a milker on farms. Mr Chivers junior started work with his father at the age of 14.
He lived in Heddington, Yatesbury, Oare, Pewsey, Manningford, Woodborough and finishing up in Wilsford where he met his future wife, Joan Gillette.
They married on December 23 1940 at Devizes Register Office and they had ten children (five sons and five daughters), 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

As a farm worker Mr Chivers did milking, rearing calves, thatching and spending weeks at a time on Salisbury Plain catching rabbits.
His family said he was hard working and always made sure there was money to feed his children.
He worked at Wilsford Farm until he was 81 and then worked as a gardener for a year.
Mrs Chivers died 17 years ago at the age of 74.
Mr Chivers smoked until he was 60 and loved a pint of pale ale.
He loved animals and his garden and enjoyed playing crib at least once a week. He also liked to have a flutter on the horses.
Ill health caught up with him just over three years ago and he moved into Avonmead Care Home in Devizes. He died on April 30 and his funeral is tomorrow at 10.30am at Wilsford Church.
His family have asked for donations in his memory for Avonmead Care Home.
