Swindon Town: Christian Roberts says he will check himself back in to the Sporting Chance Clinic as he battles to return from a knee operation.
The Swindon Town winger fought alcoholism in 2006 and spent time in the renowned Hampshire clinic before making a successful return to the Robins later in the season.
But faced with months on the sidelines after his knee operation on Tuesday, the 28-year-old says he will go back in to avoid any temptation.
He said: "I am always scared of it. When I was walking out of the specialist's office last week we passed a typical London pub and my first through was oh, that looks nice.'
"I can't say how tomorrow is going to go.
"I don't intend to do myself damage and I feel strong enough at the moment but I am still going to check myself back into the clinic."
Roberts, who hopes he will return to the centre next month, thinks the time spent there will be beneficial. I just want some quality time for myself, I just don't want to sit on my settee for five months," he said.
"I have taken a massive knock and I just feel it is a safe place.
People might call it running away from reality but I am just going somewhere where I feel comfortable.
"There will be good people around me, it's a warm place, and they will help me."
The former Bristol City and Cardiff man will be on crutches for the next three months after he underwent a micro fracture operation, and he realises he is in a for a tough time.
"You have to control your thoughts and take one day at a time," he said.
"I am always going to hit some dark rooms, it is about how you get through them."
Town chief executive Nick Watkins backed Roberts' decision and says the club will do whatever it can to help his rehabilitation from injury.
He said: "The club has a duty of care to every player and whatever Robbo needs to help him through we will support him. Even though he won't be involved for a while we will be looking to keep him actively engaged in the club."
