NATHAN Rudge says that conceding an injury-time winner at Stourbridge last weekend left a bitter taste in the mouth for his Chippenham Town side.

The Bluebirds had taken the lead midway through the first half through Dean Griffiths but when Dean Evans was brought down in the area by Ashley Williams in the second period, the hosts’ Sean Geddes levelled matters from the penalty spot.

Then, in the third minute of injury time, Chippenham goalie Ben John kept out Ben Billingham’s effort but was powerless to prevent Luke Benbow firing home a dramatic winner for Stourbridge.

“We could have been out of sight in the first half because we had a few chances but once you concede one, you’re always at risk of conceding another,” said Rudge.

“We’ve scored late goals ourselves in the past - like we did against Bideford - and it’s great when you do but when it happens to you, it’s not nice at all.

“We still played really well and I thought that we made Stourbridge look very ordinary for 65, 70 minutes.

“It was just a bitter pill to swallow.”
