Letters

  • Delay means children have nowhere to go

I should like to sound a word of warning to any prospective buyers at the Beaufort Park, the David Wilson Homes’ development in Royal Wootton Bassett. read more

  • Business as usual

The GPs who look after the population of Chippenham would like to confirm that they support the action of their medical colleagues in their national protest against the government’s handling of the NHS pension changes, which have resulted in national outrage. read more

  • Thanks to rescuer

I would like to thank the gentleman who saved me and my Parson Jack Russell pup from the jaws of a vicious Airedale dog at Bowood dog show. You handled the ferocious dog as though it was a sheep for shearing. Had it not been for your quick thought and actions my dog would be dead and I would have been savaged. This dog was on a piece of blue string with an eight to nine-year-old boy in the activity ring. I was seated on a straw bale with my dog at my side and next to me was a friend with her dog at her side watching the event. Out of the ring lunges this other dog in full attack mode. As you lifted the Airedale, it had my dog in its mouth. read more

  • Talk is out of place

I am one of many looking forward to the Devizes Festival with its exciting mix of music, poetry, drama and literature. read more

  • Boost for morale

I would like to thank you so much for choosing the trust as your charity for the Wiltshire Business Awards gala. You presented me with an excellent opportunity to meet successful businesses in Wiltshire, an opportunity I will not waste. Your support is hugely appreciated and a great morale boost for the team. read more

  • Lighting the way

Many thanks to all who attended the lighting of the Jubilee beacon at Barbury Racecourse on June 4. It was a remarkable event which could only have taken place with the help of the Barbury Horse Trials, Temple Farm Estate, many volunteers from the Marlborough Brandt Group and the Marlborough Area Board. read more

  • Lunchtime legend

We’ve all been impressed by the initiative of the nine-year-old’s blog for improved school dinners. read more

  • Successful party

We would like to thank the many residents who helped make Avon Road Jubilee street party such a success on June 2 in the Avon Road playing field. In particular, we would like to thank the following companies and individuals who donated and supported the event: Electric Works, electricians, Sprint-Systems, computers, the band Secondhand, Environomics, environmental advisor, Reading Matters, Roses, ironmongers, Devizes Toy Shop, Michael Oliver, violinist and W S Swift, plumbers. read more

  • Cruel comments

In response to the letter ‘Take a little pride’ in the Gazette & Herald last week, the comments published are cruel, hurtful and unnecessary. read more

  • I am not ashamed

I have just read the letter, published on June 14, regarding dress standards at the end of season presentation evening of the Devizes & District Miniature Rifle League. read more

  • Diner missing out

I don’t know where Brian Minter (letters, June 7) has been going out to eat but he is missing some great pubs and great landlords at excellent pubs around Devizes (some of them owned by Wadworth’s). read more

  • Pubs are a lifeline

As much as I too enjoy the culinary delights and service of Pizza Express (in fact a niece of mine is the manager in the Devizes branch) I can only protest at Mr Minter’s comments (letters, June 7) with regard to the cuisine and service of local pubs. read more

  • Rejection anger

Here we go again. I note that just two of Malmesbury’s finest councillors have rejected the idea of a half-decent Italian restaurant in the town, citing smells and sewerage as the predominant reason. read more

  • Letter of the week - A cut above the rest?

I had to smile when I saw the pictures in my newspaper of England footballers Green, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rooney and Cole, all sporting their new hair cuts, ‘created’ for them by celebrity stylist Daniel Johnson at, no doubt, great expense. read more
