MID WILTS YOUTH & MINOR LEAGUE CUP FINALS: United claim trophy double

CHIPPENHAM Town’s Hardenhuish Park hosted the Mid Wilts Youth & Minor League Cup finals at the weekend.

Melksham United celebrated two victories, their U9s and U11s winning their respective trophies.

U17’s/18s Cup

FC Calne 1 Bradford Town Youth 2

BRADFORD Town completed a league and cup double in the opening final last Friday night.

Calne almost took the lead when Kieran Salmon's chip went just wide but Bradford scored after 15 minutes with a superb 25-yard volley from Jack Miluk.

Five minutes into the second half Bradford strengthened their hold with another strike from distance from Harry Butler.

Calne never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts with a well-taken penalty from Jack Taylor.

The man of the match award, chosen by the league's disciplinary secretary Al Mundy, went to Bradford Town Youth’s Lewis Smith, with the game well refereed by Adrian Cripps and assistants Keith Ballinger and George Parks.

Ron & Edna Sales (U15s) League Cup

Holt 3 Biddestone 1

BIDDESTONE took an early lead with a goal from Dean Williams, but on the half hour mark Dan Sibley brought the scores level.

A 20-yarder from Sibley put Holt ahead in the second half and Liam Naylor added a third.

Holt’s Billy Holdsworth was named man of the match by Rob Sales, son of the late Ron and Edna Sales, with the game refereed by Martin Chown and assistants Michael Rose and David Harding.

Melksham won penalty shootout

THE teams were presented to Richard Gardiner, chairman of the Wiltshire County Football Association, before kick-off, the goalkeepers Dominic Cooke (Trowbridge) and Rhys Millard (Melksham) stealing the show with spectacular saves before Melksham emerged victorious in the shootout.

The man of the match award was presented to Tyler Gowie, of Trowbridge Town, by league disciplinary secretary Al Mundy. Bradley Arberry, from Trowbridge, refereed.

U11s League Cup

Melksham United A 3 Worton & Cheverell 0

JOSEPH Parsons gave Melksham United A the lead after 10 minutes.

After the break Harry Ringwald netted before man of the match Jack Crowther secured a 3-0 victory. The game was refereed by Andrew Evans and assistants Tom Braizer and Duncan Allsopp.

U13s Jack Goodenough Memorial Trophy

Dilton Rovers 0 Bath Arsenal 1

A CLOSE final was settled by a single goal, scored on the hour by Arsenal’s Angus Williamson.

Alex Watson, from Dilton Rovers, was awarded man of the match honours by Derek Ledbury, the league’s Minutes Secretary. David Bradfield was the referee, assisted by Richard Masters and Philip Boore.

U16s Barry Curtis Memorial Trophy

Dilton Rovers 2 Devizes Town Youth 2 (AET)

Devizes won a penalty shootout 5-4

SUNDAY’S first final saw a minute’s silence held in memory of Devizes’ former teammate Harry Dodds.

Town took the lead through Jordan Wildman, but in the last minute of the half Harry Page netted the equaliser.

Devizes regained the lead early in the second half but Brad Edwards found the second equaliser, sending the game into extra time.

Both sides went close but Devizes emerged eventual 5-4 winners in the shootout.

The man of the match award was given to Dilton’s Ash Rendall by guest Terry Curtis. Graham Wilkins refereed with assistants John Trueman and Oderico Rossi.

U10s Daniel Higgs Memorial Trophy

Westbury Youth Lions 2 Castle Combe White 0

JAYDEN Weston put the Lions ahead before securing the win with his second, earning him the man of the match award, chosen by the league’s u9s/10s Results and Referees Secretary Tina McCosh. The game was refereed by the winner of the junior referee award Adam Osbourne.

U12s Ron Boucher Memorial Trophy

Warminster Highbury 0 Trowbridge Town Youth 1 (AET)

THE league winners and runners up, Trowbridge Town Youth and Warminster Highbury, met with both defences on top in normal time.

The first period of extra time saw Brandon Mound break the deadlock, with the winning goal, while Josh Cole was taken to hospital with a badly sprained wrist.

Lyndon Parmely was awarded the man of the match ward, chosen by league vice-chairman Maurice Chilcott.

The game was refereed well by Alen Evans, this season’s best level six official, and his assistants Samuel and Edward McCosh.

U14s Tim Kerr Memorial Trophy

Chippenham Town Youth White 4 Bradford Town Youth 1

LEAGUE chairman Richard Laver, also the financial director of the Wiltshire County Football Association, was presented to the teams in the final match.

Chippenham took the lead through Siddant Gurung within the first five minutes, but within 10 minutes Bradford were level as an unmarked Daniel Lawes slotted home.

Chippenham regained the lead when Liam Sparkes’ superb cross allwed Maxwell Penny to head over the keeper and under the bar and a second from Gurung made it 3-1 efore half time.

A third from man of the match Gurung sealed the win in the second half, the game well refereed by the season’s best official Leeford Baafi-Antwi and assistants Gareth Gibbs and Nigel Fisher.

A COLTSON XI defeated fellow representative team Chippenham Town Blue 4-3 as the league held a charity match in aid of Cancer Research.

The game was officiated by referee’s secretary Maurice Chilcott, assisted by Aaron Chilcott and Lee Cox, with money from a collection being added to fundraising at next week’s Mid Wilts Fair Play weekend.

IN league action, Trowbridge Town Youth B lifted the U11 Division Four title with a 3-0 victory over Frome Town, Harrison Wreyford scoring a hat-trick, making it 11 wins from 11 this season with a game to play.

AFC Corsham Jaguars are U9 Division Two champions by six points after a 2-0 victory at Mere Town Youth, Angus Bollen and Tommy Gould scoring.
