Letters

  • No help was offered

I wish to thank' all those motorists in Malmesbury who, on July 2, drove around me whilst I was stuck in the middle of the road near Somerfield. read more

  • Wonderful display

  • Keeping spirit alive

I had the good fortune to attend the carnival dance in Melksham on Saturday night organised by Melksham Rock n Roll. How wonderful it is to see local events being well supported and that carnivals are still alive and kicking. read more

  • Aussie ad is binned

Following my recent letter and the interesting response from the gentleman in Devizes, it is now very satisfying to note that this controversial advertising campaign has been dumped by the Australian government. read more

  • Stand for election

I would like to take this opportunity to thank wholeheartedly the 146 people who took the time to vote for me at the Corsham ward town council election. read more

  • We need a bypass

The traffic problems in Calne are getting worse. The snarl-up of traffic is so frustrating. read more

Is it possible for someone to answer the question which has been puzzling me for some time? read more

  • Christian Aid total

Many thanks to the people of Devizes and the surrounding villages for their generosity in the Christian Aid house-to-house collection this year. Thanks too to the many volunteer collectors. Together we raised £6,331.28. read more

  • Wonderful display

I would like to thank Calne Town Council for the lovely display of flowers that are on show throughout the town. read more

  • Missing butterflies

I would be interested to know if anyone else has noted the dearth of moths and butterflies this year? read more

  • Parking not smart

My wife and I run the Neighbourhood Watch scheme and in Kingsbury Street on June 27 a Smart car parked between mine and a Rover. It backed into a small space, from which neither of us could get out. Its back wheels were on the pavement and nose pointing out towards the road. read more

  • Sign up to pet trust

I am grateful to the Gazette and Herald for publishing the article on the dog walking help the Cinnamon Trust gave me recently (June 26). read more

  • County carve-up

With the decision of the county council to savagely reduce the size of Trowbridge reference library, the county council's deliberate strategy of slicing up key Wiltshire services like a plum pudding among cabinet members is in full swing. read more

  • Wonderful epitaph

John Leech's letter about Scouting (July 3) evoked many memories of Devizes before the war. I well remember Captain W L D Gundry but his uncle Richard was of course a generation earlier. read more

  • Thanks to Pewsey

We are very pleased to report that we completed our five-day trek along the Great Wall of China in May in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care. It was very tough but a fantastic experience that we will never forget. read more

  • Crammer picture sparks memories

It was sad to see the pictures of the Crammer in the Gazette recently, with the accumulation of junk in the water and the disintegrating churchyard well. read more

  • Take a stand on crime

The murder inquiry and serious sexual assault in Devizes last weekend must make us all think of what should be done to prevent such awful events taking place. Mercifully, such acts are rarities here, although two knife killings within ten months are alarming signs that our community has a problem it must deal with as quickly as possible. read more

  • More on swearing

Those involved in the debate about swearing might like to be reminded that Lord Baden-Powell said that "swearing is too good a habit to be wasted". read more

  • Singer is no celebrity

I have been incensed that week after week articles appear in this newspaper about Pete Doherty. Every single person that I have voiced this opinion to has agreed that if we were interested one iota in his antics we would buy a trashy magazine. People do not buy their local paper for these tabloid, no substance stories. read more
