Letters

  • Patients should not suffer in silence

Last week the board of Wiltshire PCT agreed to begin the closure of beds on Rowan ward at Chippenham Hospital. This has resulted in complete closure of the beds to new admissions and already there are reports of patients being denied access to this local service. read more

  • Crossing not viable

I am astonished to think that a simple zebra crossing is deemed sufficient across such a busy road at Burton Hill in Malmesbury, especially when sited so near a roundabout. read more

  • Generous donations

A very big thank you to all those generous customers who contributed to the Christian Aid collections held at Sainsbury's and Morrison's on Saturday, May 17. You will be pleased to know that the final amount raised was just over £866. read more

  • Signatures help fight

I would like to say a very big thank you to Mr and Mrs David Colcomb, of Roundway Park, Devizes, for taking the time and trouble to collect signatures by the gates at Quakers Walk to keep the walk the same as it is. read more

  • Community success

May I, on behalf of Roundway Parish Council, thank Sarsen Housing for sponsoring our first Community Day held at The Cavalier, Eastleigh Road, Devizes on Saturday. I wish to thank the many helpers who made the day a success and look forward to the next event. read more

  • Gypsies unwelcome

I attended the meeting in Calne Town Hall on Friday evening where members of Calne Town Council were prepared to answer questions from the townspeople about the district council's proposal to locate two gypsy and travellers' sites close to Calne. read more

  • Not a theme park!

The desperate attempts by the County Council to promote its new History Centre - when in Trowbridge known by the much more accurate and informative title of the Wiltshire and Swindon Record Office - seem based on a total misunderstanding of the functions of such an establishment. read more

  • Green Lane site is accessible by bus

I have read your article which states that people are to have their views heard on where the new primary care centre should be built. I note that the PCT is now considering two sites other than the one already chosen at Green Lane, as "access to Green Lane is quite difficult for a lot of people in Devizes". read more

  • Management should have been sacked

It appears that the management of the Great Western Ambulance Service are not accountable for their poor management because, if they were, surely they would have been sacked. One only has to read the recent Health Commission staff survey report into GWAS to see how poorly management are performing. read more

  • Thanks to early risers

The Community Action for Savernake Hospital campaign has been trying to persuade Wiltshire PCT that they are wrong to close the day hospital and the MIU. Regretfully we have had to go to law as a last resort. This case may only be about the closure of two departments in a much-loved cottage hospital, but it also has national impact. As the Court of Appeal hearing showed, this case is now all about the right of the citizen to hold the executive to account. read more

  • What a lovely town

I wanted to feed back how impressed I have been with Devizes as a town. read more

  • Thanks to helpers

Many thanks to the unknown lady and gentleman who came to my assistance in Devizes recently. read more

  • Concert for elderly

Age Concern Wiltshire would like to thank Chippenham Ladies Choir and everyone who attended the Music for all Seasons concert on Monday, May 19 in Devizes Town Hall. read more

  • Why move chopper?

We need to keep the air ambulance in Wiltshire because for many years now our community within Wiltshire has raised much needed funds for the air ambulance. The air ambulance saves many lives so why move it to somewhere else? read more

  • Hospital in the dark

I recently spent a week in the Great Western Hospital having a total hip replacement, which required six weeks of home care three times a week following discharge. I watched while the Swindon patients were visited by social workers to arrange visits for the necessary care. Eventually I asked why nobody had visited me. I was informed that there were no such care arrangements in place for my area and was handed a list of agencies, from which I was expected to choose, contact, arrange and, of course, pay. read more

  • Target exceeded

Thank you to all our customers who have supported us over the last year. We were able to raise £123,778 for the year. Our target for the year was £105,000. We raised £109,386 on goods donated by the local community; the rest came from new goods in the shop. read more

  • Must support police

We find it surprising that Coun Noblet has written to the Gazette on the matter of the proposed alcohol exclusion zone for Chippenham as leader of Chippenham Town Council, giving the inaccurate impression that he does so on behalf of all the town councillors. His somewhat confused letter needs to be properly clarified. read more

  • People scared to go into town at night

In reply to Coun Noblet's letter printed in last week's Chippenham Gazette and Herald, I feel the entire position of an alcohol exclusion zone or DPPO (Designated Public Places order) should be clarified. read more
