• Flag cost is modest

  The letter of J W Wright (January 31) was both irrational and ill- informed. I am proud to be British and applaud Gordon Brown's decision that the Union Flag should be flown more frequently from public buildings. read more

• Claims are nonsense

  With regard to J W Wright's letter (January 31) saying we should fly the cross of St George from public buildings, I couldn't agree more and I certainly agree about Gordon Brown's motives behind his drive for Britishness in England. read more

• Fly flag of Wessex

  I read with interest J D Wright's piece exhorting us to display the English flag of St George rather than the union flag of inferior' Britain (Gazette, January 31). read more

• Members not consulted on closure

  This statement is in opposition to the decision of Westinghouse Rail Systems Ltd to sell Bristol Road recreation ground in Chippenham for development by Linden Homes. read more

• We are not hooligans

  I would just like to comment on the article in last week's Gazette & Herald on the purge on illegal bikers in the Pewsey area. One of the final comments by PC Fiander-Lewis in the article admitted that the vast majority of off-road motorcyclists obey the law. read more

  The Avonside Home in Westmead Lane, Chippenham, has been closed and boarded up for the last four months. read more

• Not up to standard

  In response to the posters around the town, I paid a visit to the museum to see the exhibition entitled The History of Sport in Devizes and District and I was disappointed with it. read more

  Although I hesitate to step on the well-trodden path of anti-fox hunting, your recently published letter from Stockport (Hunting cannot be expected to survive, January 31) cannot be ignored. read more

• Buxton housing plans are far too dense

  I am very much against the sports hub application at Wootton Bassett as the land was gifted to the residents by Gerard Buxton and the town's green spaces are disappearing fast. read more
