  As we move into 2008 and people are becoming ever more aware of the environment, I must ask why my junk mail is increasing tenfold via mainly the Royal Mail. read more

• Carol float success

• Behaviour is ironic

  I was saddened, but not surprised, to read that Sarah E Aston (Gazette letters, December 27) and other passengers on Great Western's Paddington-Chippenham service found our MP James Gray so unhelpful when they appealed for his help. read more

• No-one is to blame

  As a Wiltshire council tax payer, I hope the county council will stand firm against Ron Collier ("driver all set to sue the council") who plans to sue for compensation for damage to his car caused by a blown-down tree across the road. read more

• The wrong message

  May I ask the question of the father on the front page of the Gazette, December 20, what makes a scummy family? read more

• Heartening response

  All too often, in these modern times, those of us who are more ancient than young find reason to criticise the youth of today. read more

• Views on appalling service are clear

  Sarah E Aston of Kington St Michael uses your Letters to the Editor pages on December 27 to accuse me of "being disinterested in her rail woes." I am sorry if I gave that impression, as nothing could be further from the truth. read more

• Enough is Enough

  When I learned of the application to build on the Windsor Drive allotments in Devizes, I had an awful feeling of déjà vu. read more

• Lion 1, Sun 0

  Dr Lorna Haycock says (Rising Sun or Lion, Gazette, December 27) "Both pubs did look very similar, I agree, but we have good reason to believe that it is The Rising Sun." read more

  I ran the Swindon half marathon this year for the Wiltshire Blind Association. Although partially sighted myself, I finished the race in two hours, 18 minutes. read more

• Grand total raised

  The Rotary Club of Devizes wish to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who responded to our Christmas Appeal for the Needy. Our efforts in the Brittox and at Morrison's raised £1,030, allowing us to respond to some very worthy local cause, including the distribution of food hampers. read more

• Not guilty of ranting

  I have been guilty of a great many things in my time, but ranting and raving are certainly not among them. read more

• Fresh approach

  A hearty thank you to the talented folk involved in the Christmas Tree Festival at St Andrew's Church, Devizes. It really was a fresh approach to the festive season. read more

  Thank you to St Andrew's Church in Devizes for a truly wonderful Christmas Tree Festival. The work that has gone into making these trees look so fabulous was truly a great start to Christmas. read more

• Certificate a surprise

  On Friday, December 14, I held a presentation evening where I presented £3,240, which was split four ways with each of the following charities receiving £810 each: CLIC Sargent, Breakthrough Breast Cancer (Wilts), Oxford Radcliffe Hospital and The Royal British Legion Malmesbury branch. read more

• Yet another loss

  I would like to echo Dr Nick Maurice's comments in the letters page (December 20) and add that, as a resident of Manton for the past ten years, I have this year become a regular and new customer of the London Road Post Office. The convenience and service are first class and I am sure many other passing motorists, as well as the residents of Marlborough's east ward, feel the same. read more
