It is unlike the press to understate a report, but I believe you have achieved this in your piece recalling the achievements of Morgan Perkins. You could rectify this by adding one letter to the word county making your sentence read "led him to becoming one of the most respected and admired teachers in the country". No one who knew him as a teacher would challenge that statement. read more

I would like to thank all the local businesses, participants and Chippenham Town Council who helped to make the launch of the Made in the Chippenham Area directory on May 25 a great success. In terms of competency Gordon Brown is steaming ahead of David Cameron, according to the latest poll, by some 25 points. It is quite obvious that he has been talking to real people contrary to the unsubstantiated side swipe made by Tory county councillor, Charles Winchcombe, in last week's Gazette. read more
We have a lovely state of the art district hospital in Marlborough, which was renovated to the tune of £10,000,000 in 2004/5 and, ever since it opened its doors, the PCT has consistently closed most of the facilities given. On May 23 the chairman of the Wiltshire PCT attended a heated meeting in Marlborough and he failed to mention their intention of giving notice of closure of the day care unit on July 1, less than 48 hours later. read more

A commitment to a holiday in France meant that I was unable to attend the funeral service of Morgan Perkins, a highly regarded teacher at the former Chippenham Grammar School, so I hope to register my respect and to hopefully reach some other former pupils who may remember him from the 1950s and 1960s. read more
