  An investigations officer for North Wiltshire District Council planning called to say that she had received a letter from someone complaining that I had erected a fence in my field without planning permission. read more

• Disgraceful U-turn

  On June 14, the new Conservative administration for North Wiltshire District Council organised a disgraceful charade at the expense of local taxpayers. They made a 180 degree U-turn from supporting a unitary council for Wiltshire to opposing it. They rammed this through the council without giving a word of public explanation. read more

• Traffic silence causes sleepless nights

  I would like to comment on Jackie Finlay's letter Council failed us', (Gazette, June 7), complaining about the traffic diverted off the main Swindon to Malmesbury road. read more

• Solution is ours

  In the short time in which I have been a town councillor, most of the correspondence I have received has been about vandalism. There appear to be pockets all over town - in St Mary's churchyard, where an ancient wall is in a sorry state, in Priory Gardens, at the recreation ground and at the pavilion in Elcot Lane. Marlborough College has reported incidents and now seems to be pursuing a policy of fencing off as a deterrent, to the detriment of the community. read more

• Request for artefacts

  I was formerly president of the British Red Cross in Wiltshire and I wonder if I could remind your readers that this year is the 100th anniversary of the Red Cross in Wiltshire. This organisation has a record of service to humanity, particularly in two world wars, of which the county should be proud. read more

• Councillors should disclose portfolio

  Councillor Stuart Dobson's letter of June 7 established that he and his wife Marion Hannaford Dobson own three houses on the Rogers Meadow estate in Marlborough. read more

  I wish to express my disgust at some of the views expressed in the article about Lavington School's application for a sixth form (Gazette, June 14). read more

• Call for referendum

  So councillors T Molland and J Booth wish to keep Kennet District Council, just so they can claim their expenses no doubt. read more

• Planning mistake

  Much has been made, both in the Gazette and elsewhere, of the perceived unsuitability of the proposed affordable houses to be built at the end of Springfield Road, Rowde. But very little has been said regarding what's happening at the other end of the road. read more
