  • Don’t block doors

I write to bring awareness to the public that although comments have been made regarding the seating application in the Brittox in Devizes by Costa Coffee, I hope that they will find another site for the twice weekly communal rubbish collected around 1.30pm. read more

  • Faces jog memory

I notice on page 46 of your issue dated May 31 a photograph under the heading Your Memories, showing some of the staff of the Calne and Chippenham Rural District Council, on which I served between 1964 and the local government re-organisation in 1972-73. read more

  • Make town day rosy

Flower power will be coming to Calne, Chippenham, Corsham and Malmesbury on June 23, when SSAFA Forces Help will be out doing its annual Alexandra Rose Day collection. read more

  • Much has been done in past five years

In your May 24 edition Coun Davis is quoted as having said of the Civic Society's Corsham Station Campaign "they have done nothing for five years". That statement was totally untrue and we therefore list some of the work undertaken over that period. read more

  • Thanks for stall

I would like to thank Judy for letting me have a free charity stall in the Corn Exchange antique fair recently. I took £50, which together with other money I raise, will go to the Cheselden Ward Charitable Fund at the RUH Bath for the purchase of equipment for cancer treatment. Since my major surgery last year, I have given this fund over £4,000. read more

  • Toilets are needed

On Thursday I was attending a meeting in the Wharf Rooms and was approached by a lady from the Gateway Club. They were taking trips on a narrow boat and having a barbecue by the canal. She asked to use the toilets. Obviously I gave permission. This was a situation where a young girl was in desperate need of the toilet. read more

  • No consequences

Robert Hayter touched a sore point (Gazette, May 24) when he expressed his disgust with the expense and damage the public suffers from the crimes of terrorists, muggers, knife and gun carriers, while having to cut costs on NHS treatments. read more

  • Lawmakers must abide by their rules

Government is quite right in putting emphasis on respect for one another. A generation ago, respect was deemed to come with position - mercifully that is no longer true. Today respect has to be earned, it does not come as a right. read more

  • A generous response

You recently printed my letter about my dad's London Marathon success and his attempt to raise money for the Ahlzeimer's Society. read more

  • A lot to be desired...

With reference to Councillor Parsons' response to my recent letter, rather than suggesting I check my facts perhaps he should read the letter properly instead of overreacting. There were no facts' in my letter that he has corrected. read more

  • Taxes will go up

Readers will be aware that Wiltshire County Council has submitted proposals to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for the re-organisation of local government in Wiltshire. If these are accepted the four district councils will cease to exist and all local government functions will be carried out by a single unitary council. read more

  • Bypass would give community choice

The article in the Gazette (May 31) concerning a bypass for Devizes raises several issues. The comment by Jenny Raggett ("Bypasses divide communities") is typical nonsense reeled off by a single-issue group. read more
