I attend a painting and drawing course at the Devizes Centre of Wiltshire College. I have been informed that following advice from NIACE, it has been decided to cease giving the 20 per cent reduction for leisure classes to people over the age of 60. However, the 50 per cent discount for people on a low income is to continue. As the majority of retired people are on a greatly reduced income, it seems very unfair that the over-60s are being discriminated against in this way. read more
I would like to thank everybody who came to my mum's (Ann Green's) 60th party. read more
On Behalf of the Marlborough Christmas Lights Association (MCLA) I would like to thank all the sellers and buyers who braved the wet and windy bank holiday weather to support us on Marlborough Common in raising funds for Marlborough's festive lighting. The car boot sale was our first fundraiser this year and added £145 after expenses to the kitty. read more
Well done Val Compton (letters, May 10) for once again pleading with Kennet District Council and Wiltshire to review their rubbish collection programme and we hope that we will be able to join the four out of ten councils to reverse the fortnightly rubbish collection to a weekly one. read more
On May 3 the local elections were held in Wiltshire and on May 10 I eagerly awaited the delivery of your newspaper to find the results. read more
Now we have had the council elections when a big majority did not bother to vote. Why was this? Was it because they realised it was a waste of time? Has the council done anything in recent years for Chippenham? One example I think they were involved with was the Western Arches and the disgusting job of repairing them. read more
I hope Mr Stuart J Eels is not typical of residents of Castle Combe. read more
I support John & Rosemary Brown (letters, May 10) in their call for the truth to be told about our MP James Gray, whose grip on his North Wiltshire seat is either "substantial" and "comfortable" as he claims, or "wafer thin" as everyone else suspects. read more
I would like to express my gratitude to the voters of Erlestoke, Great Cheverell, Little Cheverell, Marston, and Worton for returning me as their district councillor for the next four years. I will continue to work with the parish councils in your villages and will strive to deal with issues which affect you. read more
We would like to thank the people who voted for us in the local election in Devizes North ward. read more
I would like to thank the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and everyone else who braved the elements to do a sponsored walk around Roundway Hill last Sunday. read more
Last Saturday we walked to Urchfont for the annual Scarecrow Festival. It was a really good day out. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we must congratulate the people of Urchfont for the quality of the scarecrows and the effort it must have taken. read more
We would like to say a big thank you to the hundreds of people who supported us on the official launch day of Plank's Farm Shop with Michael Ancram QC MP and Celebrity Masterchef John Torode. read more
The main section of your last issue extends to 88 pages and is supplemented by 16 pages devoted to the success of Swindon Town FC - no shortage then of newsprint or resources. How remarkable therefore that you did not find it possible to collate and print in full the results of the local elections in the area covered by each edition of the paper. read more
So much has been said in fighting a rearguard action to prevent the closure of the Minor Injuries Unit at Savernake Hospital to no effect, that it would seem that the community must bow to the inevitable. But on reading today, issue 36 of the Marlborough Surgery newsletter Pick Me Up, I for one am prompted to once again take up the gauntlet. read more
I am concerned by the number of people who, unsolicited, tell me that they fear the worst for our new hospital in Marlborough. These include medical staff, volunteer workers and stakeholders. read more
I was dismayed to read in last week's Gazette of the threatened closure of the minor injuries unit and the mental health ward at Savernake Hospital. read more
I hope that the newly-elected councillors on Kennet District Council will query and put a stop to the enormous sums of money that the district council is spending on its campaign against the county's proposed reorganisation of local government. read more
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the cast and committee members of the Pewsey Vale Amateur Dramatics Society (PVADS) for making me so welcome since I joined in February of this year. read more
