  I was very surprised to read that the police had asked a local parish council to give £1,000 to provide a bicycle for local police. Why can't police officers provide their own bicycles? read more

• Ideal place for music

  I'm writing in response to your Letter of the Week last week. As a musician who has visited many arts centres around the country, I've always lamented the fact that Devizes has nothing to offer in the way of a multi-purpose arts facility, and to adapt the Wharf Theatre strikes me as a fantastic idea. read more

• Fine amateur theatre

  I consider the Letter of the Week, March 22, about the Wharf Theatre quite appalling. When we came to Devizes 14 years ago, I was delighted to find such a vigorous group of people running this delightful venue. read more

  Val Compton (letters, March 22) is right to seek answers to questions about the proposed single authority for Wiltshire, but I think she is wrong to draw a parallel with Primary Care Trusts. read more

• Will cuts pay for fence?

  I refer to the ITV local news bulletin of March 19 in which it was indicated that Devizes Hospital required an enclosure fence to protect its staff at an estimated cost of £30,000 to £40,000. read more
