  I attended Kennet's meeting last week of the community development committee on behalf of the Independent Councillors Group, and was particularly concerned by the housing items. read more

  ON the subject of the James Gray MP furore. Inasmuch as his private life leaves much to be desired, I find his love for seeing live animals torn to pieces by dogs just as reprehensible. read more

  Gareth Evans was, most would agree, rightly castigated for his ill-judged comments regarding Rememberance Sunday. read more

• Tax-payers deceived

  Alternate weekly rubbish collections are a scheme dreamed up by the Government's Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP). read more

• Timetable concern

  As a daily commuter to London, I fear that the rejoicing about the new timetable for services to Bedwyn, which I currently use, and other local stations will eventually be seen as a hollow victory. read more

• Service was spoiled

  I don't go to church very often, but I always try to make a point of attending the annual Remembrance Service. My father was a long-serving regular soldier and I was also a regular. read more

  I have just been informed by Kennet District Council that a planning application has been received for a privately financed clinic to be built opposite Green Lane Hospital. read more

• Benefits are unfair

  Many blind people are being cheated by not being allowed to claim the same level of benefits as wheelchair users. read more

• Insurance madness

  I wonder how many other small traders cannot afford to attend this week's Devizes Christmas Festival due to the organisers' demand that all stallholders provide their own public liability insurance? read more

• Very inconvenient

  Mrs J M Brown's letter is so pertinent (Gazette, November 9). We are supposed to be an affluent society, yet a necessary convenience, ie public toilets, is closed because of "lack of funding". read more

• Time for a change

  The problem of parking is still with us and will worsen until those in authority, whether the Government or councils or both, do something to control the number of vehicles on roads in the county, which were suitable for traffic systems 50 years ago, but not today. read more

• Join canal protest

  I invite readers to participate in a canalside demonstration this Saturday against the cuts in Government funding for England's waterways. read more

• Traffic nightmare

  So the promised Devizes traffic survey is to be delayed (Gazette, November 16). This comes as no surprise to a cynic like me as it would be bad news for developers. I am sure the district council planners would hate to upset them. read more

• Council wants best outcome for children

  We welcome the opportunity to clarify some points regarding the county council's relationship with the Shaftesbury Society's Burton Hill School. read more

• Pupils’ support denied

  The issues concerning the closure of Burton Hill Special School were made clear in last week's article but I would like to take issue with Councillor Nancy Bryant's statement. read more
