• Lower water fears

  FURTHER to the state of the river levels in 1947, the following extract from the Marlborough Official Guide 1928 might be of interest: "The level of the water-table in the chalk is slowly but steadily falling, and the upper reaches of the Kennet itself are now often dry in summer as far as Lockeridge or Fyfield. This has been especially noticeable since the Devizes waterworks were established at Shepherd's Shore." read more

  THE Poppy Appeal in Chippenham has again been a great success. Already more than £21,500 has been sent to the Appeal HQ. read more

• Detrimental folly

  KENNET District Council wrote to me on August 9 regarding the application for outline planning permission for Quakers Walk. read more

• Double standards

  I NOTE that Kennet District Council officers are recommending that Marlborough College be allowed to build houses outside the town's development limits. read more

• Hospital plan wrong

  EACH time I have an appointment at the Devizes Community Hospital, I realise how lucky we are to have such a facility. read more

• No vote on beds cut

  HAVING attended the Kennet and North Wiltshire PCT Board meeting and listened to the proceedings, I was dismayed at the way the decision was reached to close all the in-patient beds at Devizes Community Hospital. read more

• Young say thanks

• Collection success

  ON behalf of the Rotary Club of Chippenham Wiltshire Vale may I use your newspaper to thank everyone who contributed to our annual Christmas Children's Charities appeal and in particular thank Sainsbury's Chippenham for allowing us to take over their lobby for five days. read more

• Where do we park?

  WHERE will people park while they build the shops on the central car park in Devizes? This construction will take several months and even longer if an underground car park is to be installed. read more

• Say no to shop plan

  JUST a few weeks ago I expressed my doubts about the validity of the Gillespies consultation regarding future development of Devizes. read more

• Car park must stay

  REFER to the plan to replace the car parking facility at the rear of Tesco in Devizes (50 or so parking lots) with both large and small retail outlets. read more

• Heed the lesson of spa plan

  WITH reference to the proposed taking over of the town hall by Malmesbury Town Council, I think a word of warning should be mooted. read more
