Resist club's ground plan

AT long last proposals for Swindon Town's stadium have been published and already strong views are being expressed both for and against.

If what is being reported both in the Advertiser and on BBC West are correct, it seems that unless STFC gets its way and is allowed to develop the County Ground then they will go away and develop elsewhere.

Well at least some sensible decision may result.

This area is the last green space in the central area and is unsuitable to be covered in concrete.

I am sure the athletics club and the cricket club would like to remain where they are and not be dictated to by STFC.

We seem to have heard all this before with the University of Bath dictating to residents of Swindon as to where they want to build.

What STFC are forgetting is that they have no money to finance a team yet alone plan to spend £50m on a stadium and are, as usual, handing out a begging bowl for somebody else to pay up.

The lack of money, most of which is TV money, is not all the fault of STFC as it is being creamed away by the Premier League.

Football at this level is now not a major sport with the club unable to attract crowds of more than 4,500 in a catchment area of 250,000 people.

These proposals must be resisted and if a stadium is to be built it should be on the edge of Swindon maybe near to the M4.

I have been a supporter since the early '60s and long-suffering season ticket holder in the Arkells stand for many years.
