Steve is on the case

CALNE TOWN: STEVE Casey believes bragging rights are at stake tomorrow when his Calne Town side entertain Toolstation Premier Division high flyers Frome Town.

With friends and former Melksham team-mates Simeon Allison, Jamie Cheeseman and Dean Ranger already there, Casey was close to a move to Badgers Lane this summer.

The appointment of Robbie Lardner as departed boss Kelvin Highmore's successor was enough to persuade the defender to remain a Lillywhite and tomorrow he will be relishing proving a point or two.

He said: "It is one of those games that no-one wants to lose. I know the ex-Melksham lads and also a few of their players were at Yeovil Town with me a few years ago.

"In the summer it all depended on what was happening with the manager. If Robbie Lardner had not been given the job then I may well have decided to move, but once he was appointed I was not going anywhere.

"Robbie was manager at Melksham when Dean Ranger was there and he now plays for Frome so there will be people wanting to prove points all over the pitch."

Since winning promotion from the First Division last season, Calne took time to find their feet but since their 5-0 mauling at home to Brislington, their fortunes have changed for the better.

Three consecutive victories later, with 11 goals scored and just two goals conceded, have seen them rise to midtable and with games in hand can set their sights on the early pace setters.

Casey said: "We are a young side. Only a few of us had played in the Premier Division before and it has taken us a while to get used to it.

"We have some very tough games over the next month and if we can pick up some points in them we will be looking strong."
