WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: MARLBOROUGH Town took the honours in the Premier Division with a shock 2-0 away victory over second in the table Down Ampney.
Visitors manager Pete Ward was delighted with the way his side stuck to their task and said: "We have been playing well in recent weeks and I thought we matched Ampney for commitment, although we came under a fair bit of pressure in the second half the lads stuck to their guns and defended well it was a good all round performance."
Marlborough keeper Dan Fry kept his side in the game in the first half, making several blinding saves before the home keeper Darryl Sims brought down a Marlborough forward after dropping a cross and Neil Robinson converted the spot kick.
After the break Ampney pushed forward looking to equalise but failed to take their chances and with 15 minutes to go a quick break saw Richard Jackson net a second to seal victory, much to the delight of their manager Keith Jackson.
Westside moved into fourth spot in the table following their 6-1 win over visitors Devizes, despite conceding an early goal.
The home side equalised with a long distance free-kick from Billy Sly and Craig Roberts was at the far post to head in two more to give the home side a healthy interval lead.
Geoff Swatton, Rick Hewittson and Devon Bryan added further goals in the second period to give Westside a comfortable victory.
Manager Joe O'Rourke said it was an excellent result and added: "We played some good stuff in the second half but I thought we weren't too clever in the first half."
Aldbourne moved into second spot, a point behind the leaders Melksham, following their 2-0 win over Malmesbury Vics.
The home side were made to fight hard by the Vics for the first half an hour but a strike from Jimmy Wright and a neat header from Phil Bell gave them a 2-0 interval lead.
Bottom club Purton fought well against New College before going down 4-2 to the home side.
The Red House outfit took the lead in the first couple of minutes with a strike from Tom Hughes, the College getting on level terms through Bradley Gill just before the break.
Mark Cowan regained the lead for Purton who then pressed the self destruct button, having a player sent off, giving the advantage to the home side who equalised from the penalty spot through Gill and went on to score two more through Dwain Morgan.
AFC Trowbridge Youth were surprisingly beaten by the only goal of the game by visitors Westbury Arron Lanfear scoring on the hour and Pewsey Vale caused an upset at Warminster, beating the home side 2-1 thanks to goals from Paul Montague and Barry Flippance.
The match of the day in the section between leaders Melksham and Corsham ended all square on a goal apiece. Matt Messenger giving the home side an interval lead with Scott Evans equalising midway through the second half.
Junior One leaders Wroughton pulled five points clear of the chasing pack following their 4-2 away win over Blyskawica Stuart Temple chalking up a hat-trick with Barry Dickens adding a fourth.
Barron Heating were beaten 2-1 at Pinehurst after leading by a goal to nil at the break Shane Close and Danny Hyde netting for the home side.
Marlborough Town Reserves made it a good day for the club by beating Blunsdon United 3-2, Amit Daboe, Stewart McDonaugh and Sean Anderson for the town and Dean Hughes and Ian Rosewall for the visitors.
A hat-trick from Will Wood enabled Minety to run out 5-2 winners over Westlecott.
