Corsham Town 1, Bridgwater Town 0

CORSHAM Town came out battered and bruised but with all three points after their 1-0 home win against Bridgwater Town.

Corsham started brightly and had the lion's share of the game throughout the first-half.

Scott Lye had a first opportunity, shooting over the bar after good work from Toby Colborne.

On 22 minutes, John Eldred scored the only goal of the game.

After being put through down the left by Jerad O'Pray, the midfielder drove his shot across the box, wrong footing Bridgwater goalkeeper Ben Fellows.

The same attacking force almost added a second goal before half time with Eldred crossing to O'Pray, who saw his shot squirm wide of the far post.

In the second-half Bridgwater came out to literally put their stamp on the game.

Russell Lodge was the victim of two crunching tackles before Jack Cullis was targeted and had to leave the pitch following a tough tackle.

Bridgwater had more of the second-half possession than their hosts but more of the chances fell to Corsham.

With minutes remaining a cross flew across the box, worrying the Corsham defence.

In stoppage time Fellows went up for the corner and, just as well for Corsham, the ball fell to the Bridgwater goalkeeper who sliced his effort wide.

Corsham manager Colin Bush felt his side deserved the victory, which keeps them in third place

He said: "It would have been hard to take if we had come off with just a draw. They probably shaded possession in the second half but did not trouble us. We had about four efforts for every one of theirs.

"They were a very good team whose results have been improving and I was very impressed with them.

"It was a much sterner test than we have had in previous weeks."

The Corsham manager was also pleased with his side's Les Phillips Cup draw at home to Frome Town.

He said: "We have no problems with that at all. It has to be the tie of the round.

"They may have lost more games than us but it will be a tough game.

"We were unlucky to lose at their place earlier in the season and we will be looking to put that right."
