Horror stories from Kashmir

HEROIC Salisbury firefighter Dan Cooke has returned from earthquake-devastated Kashmir seven-times a lifesaver, after being part of one of the most successful UK overseas rescue missions ever undertaken.

Among the people he pulled out alive were a mother and baby and a 75-year-old woman and her daughter, who had already given each other the last rites, having abandoned all hope of salvation after spending 80 terrifying hours trapped underground.

Dan and his fellow rescuers from Rapid-UK encountered inspiring stories of hope and dignity amid the horrific scenes of death and destruction at the site of a collapsed apartment block in Islamabad.
