B&B has others for breakfast

Christine and Graham SaundersA BED and breakfast in Purton has been rated one of the best in the south-west in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards.

The Old Farmhouse, owned by Christine and Graham Saunders, was in the top three as one of two highly commended B&Bs.

Entrants were expected to demonstrate high qualities of customer care and commitment to the environment something Christine and Graham value dearly.

"We only opened in January and so it's quite an honour, especially as we're the only B&B in Swindon to be put up for an award," said Graham.

Disabled access was also a major factor in deciding the winners.

Malcolm Bell, chief executive of South West Tourism, said: "Quality was a major criteria with the judging process as it is vital that we offer a product that satisfies the ever increasing expectations of consumers."

Graham said: "This year we are highly commended but we intend now to take steps to improve our service so that we can win in 2006."

The family-run B&B has only four rooms, although they plan to increase to six soon.

"The B&B is run by my wife and I and that is what I think sets us apart because we can provide individual attention to our guests," said Graham.

The Old Farmhouse is in 32 acres of land and has a private nine-hole golf course for guests. To reserve a room call Graham and Christine on 01793 770130.
