Leaders Ampney suffer major upset

Westside caused the upset of the day in the Wiltshire Premier league defeating leaders Down Ampney 4-2 in a fairly even contest.

Westside boss Joe O'Rourke was full of praise for his side and said: "Ampney are a good side but the lads battled well, put away their chances and fully deserved their victory."

Ampney took an early lead through Mark Harper but that was cancelled out when the visitors' keeper Tim Knowles made a mess of a short goal kick that fell at the feet of Justin Wallace, who celebrated his first game for the club by knocking in an equaliser.

Geoff Swatton then added a second following good work by Johnny Dart, volleying into the top corner of the net to give the home side a 2-1 lead at the break.

Soon after the restart Swatton struck with a third and Dan Clarke added a fourth before Tyrone Stevens pulled a late goal back for the visitors.

Aldbourne played some good football on a tricky surface to run out 2-0 winners away to AFC Trowbridge Youth.

In a goalless first half both sides missed several good chances the Aldbourne defence kept on their toes by a lively Trowbridge outfit.

The honours continued to be fairly even until midway through the half when the home keeper spilled a well driven free kick and Gary Ashford was on hand to hit the loose ball into the net.

Ten minutes later it was Ashford who made sure of victory for the visitors by knocking the ball over his markers head and letting fly with a 25-yarder that flashed into the net.

Assistant boss Ian Restell said: "It was not one of the easiest of surfaces to play on but we should have scored at least a couple in the first half.

"However, we had a chat with the lads during the interval and Gary Ashford did the business for us after the break, he's scoring goals for fun."

Purton Reserves put up a good performance against Corsham before going down 3-1.

A penalty from James West gave the home side a first-half lead but Purton fought back after the break to level the scores.

Further goals from Rob Humphries and Tom Kirk gave the home side victory and took them to the top spot in the section.

Westbury United beat Marlborough Town 2-0 thanks to two goals from Lee Carpenter, one from the penalty spot.

Two goals from Matt Messenger and one from Wayne Bailey enabled Melksham to beat Calne 3-0.

Malmesbury Vics were leading Bromham by a goal to nil until injury time when a well struck free-kick by Matt Taylor gave the home side a share of the points.

Pewsey Vale gained a 4 -3 success over visitors Devizes Town Reserves with a brace each from Barry Flippance and Mark Field, Simon Drewitt (2) and Jamie Mullis replying for the visitors.

In the match of the day in Junior One, Wroughton inflicted the first defeat of the season on leaders Barron Heating 2-0.

In a closely contested match honours were even for the first hour then Barry Dickens emerged the Wroughton hero netting with a well-struck left footer from just outside the box and adding a second with a neat glancing header shortly after.

Third-in-the-table Stratton Rovers also came a cropper losing 3-1 to Westlecot United Tony Griffin (2) and Rich Horner on the scoresheet, Lou Cunningham netting for the Rovers.

Blyskawika did well to beat AFC Stratton 4-0 with two goals from Tom Kopinski and one each from Ben Hollick and Miec Wojewodka and Marlborough Town Reserves accounted for Castle Combe 4-1 Pete Day (2), Michael Barrett and Emmett Deboe on target.

Pinehurst OB collected another three points beating Biddestone 3-2 despite playing all of the second half with ten men following the dismissal of Steve Challinor.

Swindon Asians beat Blunsdon United 3-2 Kamal Miah 2 and Nouno De Santos on target for the home side and Greg Payne and Kevin Taylor for Blunsdon.

There were plenty of goals at Minety where visitors Abbey Rodbourne ran out 7-3 winners, Paul Parsons finding the net four times, Matt Bown (2) and Nathan Shepherd.

Chiseldon Castrol also scored seven in Junior 2 against QT Swindon who replied with a consolation.

Purton A won their first game of the season defeating Wroughton Reserves 6-2 Arron Kimber notching a hat-trick, Mark Cutter (2) and John Horgan. Ben Fulham and Vince Gillingham for the visitors.

Aldbourne Reserves scored five without reply against Bromham, Matt Fryer, Paul Blackford, Ashley Henson, Chris O'Connell and Colin Davies.

John Le Strange and Dave Jones were on target for Blunsdon Reserves in their 2-0 win over Westside Reserves and CHG accounted for Blueprint 2-1 with goals from Matt Townsend and Chip Lewis.
