Child porn shame for disabled man

A FRESHBROOK man has admitted possessing some of the most disgusting child porn available on the internet.

John Everitt, 42, of Crawford Close, pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to indecent images of children at Swindon Magistrates Court on Friday.

The court heard how Everitt was found with 75 pornographic pictures of youngsters, some of them falling in to the highest category of abuse.

Stacey Turner, prosecuting, said that Everitt's arrest came about after Swindon police were handed information from fellow officers in the West Midlands.

An investigation there had turned up Everitt's details as someone who had downloaded child porn.

Swindon officers raided Everitt's address and a search of his computer uncovered the depraved images.

Ms Turner said: "He was arrested, his computer was investigated and 75 indecent images were found.

"Seventy-five images were found ranging across levels one to five one being the least serious, five being the most serious."

The court heard how Everitt downloaded the pictures after logging on to a website where people could swap their photos.

At first wheelchair-bound Everitt was not looking for images of children but when he realised they were available he saved them to his hard drive.

Ms Turner said: "There is no suggestion that this defendant is at the heart of the abuse but if there were no viewers of these images taken then the principal offenders would have no business."

Tony Nowogrodski, defending, said that with 66 of the 75 photographs being level one it was only a few that were at the high end of offending.

He said: "He went on various websites and found one where he could swap photographs quite innocently, pictures of cats or dogs or whatever.

"Soon it became apparent that the photographs being sent to him were of an indecent nature."

Everitt pleaded guilty to four offences of making an indecent photo of a child dating back to January 30, 2005, two charges of making an indecent photo of a child prior to September 23, 2005 and one of possession of indecent images from September 24.

But Mr Nowogrodski said that Everitt, who is disabled, would struggle with whatever sentence the court handed out.

He said: "He is 42-years-of-age and has suffered spina bifida since birth.

"Quite simply he is not going to be able to do a community punishment and he won't survive in custody."

Sentencing was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Everitt was released on unconditional bail and is due back in court on October 26 at 1.45pm.
