Bag snatch remand

A MAN accused of carrying out a bag snatch while riding a bike in the town centre has been remanded in custody by a judge at the crown court.

Sergio Simoes is also accused of going equipped to steal and two counts of house burglary along with the one matter of robbery.

The 38 year-old, of Station Road, is said to have been on a bike when he cycled up behind Carole Thompson as she walked along Canal Walk on Tuesday September 27.

He is then accused of snatching the 49-year-old's bag and pedalling away in the direction of the town centre following the morning attack but was caught by a passing 24-year-old cyclist.

Recorder Victor Lyon QC was also told that Simoes had been committed to the crown court for two allegations of dwelling house burglary.

In one of the two raids, which took place last month, he is said to have made off with jewellery and electrical equipment which is worth £9,000.

No pleas were entered during the brief hearing at the crown court.

The judge adjourned the case to Friday November 18 and remanded Simoes in custody until that date.
