Families are given the chance to learn together

SWINDON families will get the chance to take part in several free activities as part of a national campaign.

Family Learning Week is part of an annual drive to encourage families to learn together. The Swindon Learning Partnership is running the scheme for the third year, and co-ordinator Jackie Crowther is excited by what is on offer.

She said: "There will be events running all day from Monday to Saturday, including cookery, yoga and art lessons.

The sessions will be held at a variety of locations throughout the town, and will be running in the day and in the evening. Mrs Crowther hopes that by attending as a family unit, people will be able to improve their lives together.

"We hope to provide an area where families can have fun together, and enjoy learning at the same time.

"These events are not just open to direct family members, we encourage all relations to get involved. All events are free and open to all. Just turn up and see what's going on."

Mrs Crowther recently went on a trip to Uganda to see a learning programme in action, and hopes that the Swindon version will be as successful.

She said: "It was amazing to see the effects the programme had on the community there. It was a massive success."
