'I think you need to take a left here, boss'

Ref: 99499-24DON'T be surprised to see a white pick-up truck, a dog and a convoy of dumbstruck drivers travelling through Haydon Wick.

Harvey, a two-year-old French mastiff, is creating a stir around town as he travels to work sitting upright in the passenger seat of his owner's truck, window rolled down and arm out to catch some rays.

And his owner Gary Robinson, who runs a waste disposal company, says Harvey refuses to travel any other way.

"No matter what vehicle he gets into, he always sits up in the front," said Mr Robinson, 42.

"I get people following us around all the time. I think people are gobsmacked when they see us coming along the road. He's a big dog at 50 kilos so it is a strange sight to see him sat up like a person."

Mr Robinson has had Harvey since he was eight weeks old.

He was car sick on his very first journey but has never looked back since," he said.

"He just likes to be with me wherever I go."

But it's not just trucks that Harvey likes anything on wheels will do.

Mr Robinson said: "Once I was working on a job with a digger and Harvey was lying in it asleep.

"I turned round and suddenly saw it spinning around in circles, going round and round like a fairground ride. I had jump in and stop it.

"The funny thing was Harvey stayed fast asleep and I had to wake him up."

He added: "He sleeps like a baby and snores like a train."
