Swindon hit for six in Cornwall

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Swindon Town Ladies 400-mile round trip to Newquay ended in disappointment as they were defeated 6-1.

Newquay went 3-0 up within the first 13 minutes but the young Swindon team, who had five players who were 16 or under, kept trying to play passing football.

For long periods in the first half they did have control of the game but lacked the finishing touch.

Swindon did pull a goal back in the 27th minute when a fine corner from Cathryn Reid which was met by top scorer Michelle Rich.

Rich then hit the bar, but Newbury added three more goals in the second period.

Spitfires were edged out 3-2 by Chippenham played their first home game of the season on Sunday against Chippenham town.

After 20 minutes of end-to-end action, Chippenham were the first to open the scoring.

Spitfires immediately went on the attack with Mel Bristow scoring within five minutes.

Spitfires went ahead in the 40th minute with a goal from Diane George, only for Chippenham to equalise just before half time.

The second half continued at the same hectic pace, but Spitfires looked good for a point until Chippenham scored their third on 90 minutes.
