Minety are on the pace

Minety's forwards drive into the Cricklade defence Ref: 99613-32MINETY ran in three unanswered tries to maintain their Dorset & Wilts One North push behind Supermarine.

In a lacklustre game played in breezy conditions, Cricklade scrummaged bravely and tackled well but displayed little creative flair and even less discipline, while Minety's handling and finishing were at times poor.

The game got off to a promising start when the visitors put together several phases to set up winger Martin Coe for the opening try after just four minutes.

Flanker Luke Huckin and scrum-half Andy Brown laid the groundwork before Coe's strength and pace took him over.

The conversion attempt bounced back off the posts, but the visitors were soon back in action as Huckin nimbly fielded a kick ahead from Cricklade and linked skilfully with winger Ollie Bown.

The move eventually led to a scrum, from which Brown committed the two remaining defenders before slipping the ball to Bown on the wing, who dashed along the touchline for a try in the corner.

The game degenerated after that, although Minety dominated and Cricklade's woes continued in the second half as prop David Cox was forced off the field and the referee announced that all subsequent scrums would be uncontested.

The visitors partly redeemed themselves with a well-worked tap penalty move that saw back row stalwart Charlie Gawthropp charge over for a try from 10 metres out.

Minety 2nd were unable to raise a side to play at Combe Down 2nd, for which they have been docked two league points in Dorset & Wilts Three North.
