OAPs' charter

MRS Hardy, who refused to pay all her council tax, has been freed from prison. Can we now expect her supporters and everyone who thinks council tax unfair to support the National Pensioners' Convention?

On Wednesday October 12, there will be a mass lobby at the House of Commons on a ten-point charter for pensioners. This will include a raised basic state pension linked to average earnings, free community and long term care and free nationwide travel.

It isn't charity we require. After a lifetime of work whether inside or out of the home older people are surely entitled to money for leisure activities and a warm home. Some time ago you published many letters from voters protesting against rising council tax.

Where are they now?
