Corsham Town 0, Welton Rovers 1

CRAIG Chaplin insists there is no crisis at the Southbank after his Corsham side crashed to a shock defeat at home to Welton on Saturday.

The Corsham Town goalkeeper admitted The Reds are yet to turn on the style this campaign but points to their start to last season as a reason for encouragement.

After six matches last season, Colin Bush's men were languishing near the bottom of the Toolstation League Premier Division with just five points yet went on to finish runners-up.

This season they have already won nine points from their first five league games and Chaplin insists they just need something to kick start them into action.

He said: "We are far better off at this stage this season than we were last. We have been a little bit disappointing but I think we are all confident things will change for us.

"We are lacking a few ideas in breaking teams down and teams who come here are raising their game because of the standards we set last year.

"People will say that we are missing Alan Griffin but I think that is difficult to say. He obviously did something right for us last season as he scored 37 goals but it was often like playing with 10 men when he was in the team.

"I could not honestly say whether we are playing better or worse without him in the side."

Corsham hit the post twice on Saturday but failed to make the most of the majority of the possession and were undone when Welton took the lead on 65 minutes.

Chaplin said: "We didn't play particularly badly but having said that we didn't play that well either. We lacked that spark and there was nothing to kick start us.

"It was almost as though some of us thought we were playing a mid table side and that we would win the game easily. If you go into a game thinking that you are always likely to get beaten.

"Maybe we are suffering a bit from exceeding everyone's expectations last season but with the players we have got here I am sure it won't be too long before we click into gear.

"We have got Frome tomorrow and that is a massive game for us. These are the games we all want to be involved in and we know there will be no complacency against them.

"They are set to name their new manager and so will have players eager to prove a point and will be playing for their places. It is going to be a battle but we have confidence in our own ability."
