Rewards for lyric writings

THE WINNERS of the Wiltshire Library poetry competition will be presented with their book token prizes at a ceremony in Warminster.

The award evening for the annual competition, which is run by Wiltshire County Council, will take place from 6.30pm on Wednesday.

The competition aims to highlight the wide range of activities run by libraries in Wiltshire for people of all ages and interests.

Community librarian Sue Boddington, who organised the competition, said the judges were delighted with the standard of the 225 entries.

Deborah Miles, from Salisbury, won the best poem in the adult category. To celebrate the SeaBritain festival, a year-long celebration of Britain's maritime links, an extra category was added this year to find the best poems about the sea. This was won by Gill Minter, from Chippenham, for her poem, Clean Sand.

The winner in the age four-six category is Stephanie Cresswell, from Purton, while Oliver Feltham, from Kington Langley, scooped first prize for seven-nine-year-olds.

The 10-12 winner is Rebecca Wilson, from Hilperton, and Fuchsia Singleton-Hoare, from Chippenham, took the honours in the 13-15 category.
