WESTBURY United manager Paul Brickley has pleaded with Wayne Wheeler to stay at Meadow Lane after the striker was the subject of a seven days' notice of approach from Frome Town.
Wheeler, now 21, has been at Westbury for the last five years and his acrobatic goal celebrations have seen him become a fans' favourite among the Westbury faithful.
Consistently the club's top goal scorer, Wheeler has looked even sharper this campaign, scoring nine goals in seven games to help Westbury to an unbeaten start to their Toolstation League Division One season.
Premier Division Frome are setting their sights on promotion into the Southern League next season and Brickley fears the lure of big money might be too much for the youngster to resist.
He said: "I would be devastated if he left but I think some silly money is going to be offered to him and that is sometimes very hard for a young lad to turn down.
"He is a massive part of my plans and is definitely a vital player in my side. This season he has looked very sharp and looked like he has been enjoying it.
"But at the end of the day it comes down to money. I would not want to lose him as he is integral to our season."
l IT was a tale of two goalkeepers on Saturday as Westbury stretched their unbeaten start to their Toolstation League Division One campaign to six matches.
Dawlish goalkeeper Barry Abraham pulled off five brilliant stops to deny Westbury the three points but the visitors' stopper Nick Evans had to be at his best to stop Dawlish carrying out a smash and grab job.
Manager Paul Brickley was delighted with his side's performance but admitted by the final whistle he was left to reflect on two dropped points.
He said: "I would have been happy with a point before the game started but in the end I felt we shaded it.
