Broughton away to winning start

BROUGHTON Gifford's first game of the season saw them beat arch-rivals Rudloe 2-1 in the preliminary round of the Pied Piper Productions-sponsored A and B Cup.

Matthew Coles opened the scoring for Broughton before Lee McCarron equalised. The second half saw Danny Irons score Broughton's winner, but Rudloe were unlucky when they had a goal disallowed.

A goal in each half was enough to see St Andrews through to the first round with a 2-0 win at Four Seasons. The scorers were J Meillan and J Downing.

A Lee Jackson goal gave Seend United a 1-0 half-time lead against Blue Circle. He doubled the lead in the second half before super sub David Castle also scored two, giving Seend a 4-0 win.

Rowde Sports and FC Chippenham drew 3-3 after extra-time, with Matthew Jenkins and Jamie Mullins on target for Rowde and Lee Blackmore Matthew Spear and Germaine Pedley replying.

North Bradley Saints hit back from a goal down to beat The Lamb Inn 4-1. Robin Walker put the Lamb ahead but Saints hit back with goals from Tim Richards, Andy Colebrook, Richard Wyatt and Craig Brown.

AFC Trowbridge Wanderers let a 3-1 half-time lead slip away as they went down 6-4 at Heytesbury.

Dean Gumm (3) and Steve Coombs scored for Wanderers, with Damien Gonzales (3), Chris Davis, Gary Spence and Rob Jacques on target for Heytesbury.

AFC Trowbridge Town Youth found themselves a goal down in the opening minutes of their cup match against Apetito when a mix-up left Mark Powell free to score.

Trowbridge hit back through Liam Milburn only to let Powell in for Apetito's second. Mark Burrell scored a fine equaliser, lobbing the Apetito goalkeeper, and from then on Trowbridge took charge of a very scrappy game.

The second half saw Trowbridge take the game to their opponents and a hat-trick from Dan Kovaks and a brace from Leigh Ruskin saw them comfortably into the next round.

In a close fought battle, Lavington came out on top by the odd goal in five against Hilperton United. Matthew Hale and Miles Hickton (2) scored for Lavington.

The Deverills' Scott Gallazi scored his fourth goal of the season to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break against Bradford Town Reserves. A second goal from Sean Holton all but sealed the game for the Deverills. Danny Huckett scored a last minute goal for Bradford.

Semington Magpies lost goalkeeper Matt Russell, when he was called up to play for Wiltshire under 18s at the 11th hour, for their game against Bradford United, so left back Richard Allum had to go in goal for only the second time in his career and 45-year-old assistant manager Martin Bray had to come out of retirement and play the full 120 minutes.

The match ended 2-2 after extra-time. Kelvin Lockwood and Dan Phillips scored for Magpies and John Baker replying.

Goals from Dan Cox and Paul Smith gave Bratton a 2-0 win over Steeple Ashton.

Tom Welch scored both goals as Warminster Town Reserves beat Freshford United 2-0.

In Division One goals by Frank Alexander and Riccardo Pawlok gave Frome Town Sports a 2-1 win over Dynamo West End.

In Division Three Hilperton United Reserves beat Bradford United Reserves 2-1, thanks to Dan Martin and a Kieran Powell own goal. Adam Cooksey scored for Bradford.

The Stiffs' poor run continued as they went down 2-1 at home against Frome Town Sports A. All the goals came in the second half, through Simeon Player for the Stiffs and David Dawley and Andy Maidment for Frome.
