Corsham Town 0, Welton Rovers 1

CORSHAM Town chief Colin Bush said his side "received a kick up the backside" on Saturday after a 1-0 home defeat to Welton Rovers.

Bush was left disappointed by his team's performance after they failed to score despite a hatful of chances.

In the first half Gary Blackwood headed just past the post before Scott Lye hit the bottom of the post with a 25-yard shot.

In the second half Jamie Lyons hit the post again before Toby Colbourne and Andy Coombs both hit shots over the bar.

And in the last minute debutant Jason Walsh whipped cross was deflected towards goal but fell comfortably to the goalkeeper.

Instead it was Welton who went home happy with a goal on the hour to consign Bush's side to a first league defeat of the season.

"We only lost once at home all last season. This was a very disappointing performance as well," said Bush.

"Corsham's standards have been set high. Players cannot turn up and think they will win although to be fair I'm sure they don't.

"Teams are going to come to Corsham and be fired up and ready to go and our players have to be ready.

"It showed a lack of games and a lack of teamwork but we have had two or three lads away on holiday. We should have performed a lot better as a team.

"We have not experienced too many losses at Corsham over the last year and a bit. I feel if we had played to our potential we would have been victors.

"In the first half we had a couple of half chances and hit the post. We had five or six good chances while they had two but they scored one.

"I have no gripes about the scoreline but on chances we could have come away with a victory.

"We have played six games and I wouldn't say we have come up against a team that is better than us."

Bush, who has been linked to the vacant Frome Town hot seat, said he had not approached the Somerset side nor been approached, adding he would attend Frome's game on Saturday as the Corsham manager.

He also said he hoped to keep hold of Frankie Coleman who has been the subject of an approach by local Toolstation rivals Calne Town.

Bush added: "I am sure Calne will speak to Frankie but I have talked to him and there's no reason for him to be going anywhere. He is still a big part of my plans."
