Specialist vet centre top in UK

Steve Smith, vet and avian specialist, with Topaz, a double yellow headed Amazon Ref: 99472-20VETS across the country travelled to Swindon's specialist veterinary centre. The 63 vets were at Great Western Referrals, Shrivenham Road, to find out about the expert care the centre offers.

Organiser Louise Fetherstonhaugh was delighted that so many vets came to observe the work of these Swindon experts.

"The centre was very busy with both vets and a wide range of wonderful animals," she said.

"Great Western Referrals is one of the leading centre's of its kind in the country.

"Specialist vets work there in the same way specialists in hospitals do.

"If an animal is taken to their local vet and has something wrong they can be referred to a specialist at the centre."

All sorts of pets are treated at the centre.

The open day gave specialists at the centre a chance to demonstrate their work which includes internal medicine, cardiology, blood disorders and metabolic or hormonal diseases such as kidney and liver disease including diabetes.
