KELVIN Highmore believes Melksham have become a more attractive place to play in the last few weeks and admits their good start could make his job a lot easier.
Since being appointed boss at the Conigre in the summer, Highmore has guided Melksham to third place in the Toolstation Premier Division, a fact he believes has not gone unnoticed by rival players.
Highmore has put a seven days' notice of approach in for Trowbridge Town striker Matt Cooper this week and has a few more potential targets in mind as he looks to take advantage of Melkham's new found success.
He said: "Coops is good friends with Josh Brigham and while I have no idea whether he will come I decided there was no harm in putting the approach in for him.
"The good thing for us at the moment is players will look at our start to the season and feel that coming to us would be a good move for them. We have more chance of strengthening our squad now.
"I am delighted with the squad I have already got but as a manager it is my job to make sure the players stay fresh and one way of doing this is by increasing competition."
Young midfielder Tim Eatough has returned to Melksham after leaving for Odd Down in the summer and with a spare weekend to look forward to, Highmore is left reflecting on an almost perfect start to his time at Melksham.
He said: "I am not even looking at the league table at the moment. I never looked at it with Calne last season and that won't change.
"We are only six games into the season but what we have done is shut a few people up. The crowds are getting bigger as people start coming back. Melksham is potentially a big club and we have to try and realise that potential."
