Winterbourne make use of home advantage in cricket sixes

WINTERBOURNE Bassett triumphed in their own annual six-a-side cricket tournament at the weekend.

The hosts saw off Wanborough in quite comfortable fashion in the final with Sam Moorshead starring with the bat and also taking a catch.

Bassett had taken care of WH Smith in the semi-final while Wanborough beat Nalgo.

The four teams qualified for the semi-finals after finishing in the top two of their respective groups.

Winterbourne Bassett have held this event every year for the past 10 years and organiser Paul Sheffield was delighted with another successful day.

He said: "It's our annual event which we have run for 10 years.

"It was an excellent day and the weather was bright at the start which was good. The rain held off so it was fantastic for everybody.

"The standard of cricket was very high and every match was pretty close.

"I'd like to thank every team who competed and our sponsors Arkell's for supporting the event."

The other teams to compete were Dreweatt Neate, Sheffield Allstars and Nationwide.
