JAMIE Cureton refuses to accept that Town's dreams of higher status are already dead for another year although he feels there is room for only half-a-dozen more 'errors' at best.

Andy King's men have already suffered six defeats this season and the 30-year-old is warning that a repeat performance will make an already tough task even more daunting.

Cureton was completely rested for Saturday's trip to Bournemouth and didn't travel with the Town party.

This led to some suggestions that he had reacted badly to being dropped from the starting 11, talk the striker has been swift to rubbish.

He said: "I think I'm already on record as saying that I don't think I've performed to the level that I would want. The gaffer said he was going to make changes and that he would be looking to give Christian Roberts a go from the bench.

"Rather than travel and take up a place on the bench that could be filled by a youngster, we came to the conclusion that I could have the weekend to get things clear in my head and come back refreshed on Monday. You're gutted because you want to play but there's certainly been no tantrums from me.

"It was strange because the work you do in the week is all built up towards the Saturday, and I didn't really do too much over the weekend to be honest. It was just disappointing that the boys couldn't get the result."

Cureton is focused on putting in a hard week's training in order to try and wrench back his starting slot for Saturday's visit of Bradford City.

However, whether included or not, he knows the clock is ticking in terms of the amount 'mountain' Town can realistically climb if they continue to lose matches.

He said: "The league table doesn't lie and at the moment we are down there for a reason.

"We simply haven't performed well enough to get the points we know we're capable of getting. That means we've put greater pressures on ourselves as we seek to go for the success we all want.

"We're already 12 or so points behind the leaders and that's quite a lot to catch up already. In all the play-off campaigns I've been involved with in the past, you're looking at not losing more than a dozen matches over the course of the season. It's not exact of course, it all depends on how the league as a whole works out.

"But however many matches it eventually turns out to be, we have to break the habit now.

"The fans are frustrated and annoyed, as are we as players, because they know that what's there is capable of so much better."

Ticket prices for the trip to Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday September 27 have been announced. Further details on 0870 4431894.
